Rose Prairie Quilts and Farm

The main reason for coming to California was to celebrate the "little dudes" 1st birthday. It was a wonderful party and their mother's did a fantastic job in creating a fun party. The theme they pick was Construction Zone. From the cake to activities for the kids was so very creative. I wanted to share some of the clever ideas they had. My daughter took a sheet cake she purchased at Costco and added some of her own additions. She put a couple of toy Cat trucks on top and added crumbled up Oreo cookies minus the centers. Refreshments were served in toy trucks. Fruit kabobs were named Rebar. Chex mix was called Gravel Dip was Concrete  Mix and chocolate covered donuts were Truck Tires. Activities  for the kids were bubbles, trucks and these. Small sandbox with construction truck.   They took boxes and covered with plain paper and drew what looks like bricks. So my quilt I want to share is my blue and white Rocky Road. T his one is what I call a true scrap quilt because the blue fabric is from  clothing that I made for my girls when they were little.   And my oldest daughter will be 40 next month so a good portion of it is not all 100% cotton, mostly blends.   I have so much fun looking at the fabric and remembering what I made.  I am using blue Coats and Clark quilting thread. It is a twin size quilt with Mountain Mist Country Rose Cotton batting. I'm about 3/4 done. I do a majority of my quilting in a hoop and as you can see I am on this one.   I had a few blocks leftover so I decided to use them on the back.  It almost looks like a whole another quilt. I know I have been absent the past few days and this is why Grandma has been keeping very busy watching them for my daughter. I have been wanting to post some things I had planned before I came here but just haven't had the time or energy. But I do want to take a minute to share about something I'm very passionate about and that is hand quilting. WHOO  - WHOO It's my day for 'It's for the birds" blog hop.  Before I start I need to give thanks to our cheerleaders  and If it wasn't for all their hard work this hop would not of happen.  Thank you ladies Now for what you stopped by for. I have a lot of bird related patterns, especially ones that are chickens This quilt I made last year from a pattern in Quiltmania. Then here are a few more patterns I had and thought about doing. But time wasn't on my side for a big project.  You see I'm going to see "the little dudes" next week, it's their first birthday. I have given it great thought and this is what I came up with  First of all, finishing the Christmas String quilt is top on the list and heck, it's almost done. Next is I would love to be able to finish quilting on my Daughter's quilt, bind and give it to her.  Now that one might be a little ambitious but I think it could be possible. So on the list it go.  Then there is some embroidery that is needed on the tree wallhanging And 4th and last work on the Pea Ridge Lily blocks I prepared.

How did I do?  Well I guess it depends on what I'm considering, the garden, weightloss and health, quilt projects, etc. My garden has had such a setback in planting and such with this unusual spring we are having here. Normally the last frost date is around the 10th of April but here we have had a couple of nights that were frosted and they are predicting the possibility of another freeze Friday morning. Needless to say I have hesitated from planting the tomatoes and other warm loving veggies.  My heel is finally starting to get better but only because I have been limiting myself from being on my feet which means I haven't been back to my daily walks. So  I pretty much stay the same last month. Now for my Get-R-Done's for last month. 1. 30's Row Quilt - done    2. Christmas String Quilt -    have all the pieces made and I'm now assembling them - almost done   3. My daughter's Quilt -  top done, basted and I'm now quilting by hand.
