Yarn Along 4-10

Being that it a wonderful stormy day I have been sewing and now taking a little time to knit I thought I would show what I am working on. It is one of the projects I had started and put up and  found when going through my yarn stash.  It's a baby hat that I probably started when the "little dudes" were waiting to come and for some forgotten reason just quit. I'll finish it and donate it to the hospital the "little dudes" were born at. I have a couple more I have made to add to it.  Now for what I'm listening to is still the "Friendship Bread" Almost done, maybe 40 mins. left. This one of 2 book over a Maigold''s Loft  for the Reading Book Club. The first book "The Book Thief" I loved and recommend it to you as a good read. I loved how the writer told the story. It was one of those books you wish would continue on. And for this book it's not my type. I know this type of book is very popular but to

Rice, My Comfort Food

When I was young we would have rice a lot. While growing up in Sacramento California there were rice paddies all over the Sacramento Valley and I don't know if that had anything to do with the fact that we ate a lot of rice or not.  Back then we ate white rice but since I've been on my my own I have eaten rice in its more natural state, brown rice. When I was little we would have a bowl of rice with milk, sugar and cinnamon, which I considered this to be of my most favorite comfort foods. I also eat rice often in place of noodles. I will have rice as the base with the main dish on top. But the recipe I want to share with you today is my basic comfort food   that is just a bowl of hot rice with milk, sugar and cinnamon. I now use like I said brown rice, and in place of white sugar I use raw sugar or honey. you can use any other type of sweetener that you like and a generous amount of cinnamon. If you are wanting more rice recipe go to Judy's for What&

blueberry scones

I am having this thing of wanting to try different Scone recipes and this is one I found over at Mennonite Girls Can Cook . They have so many Yummy recipes and there is another Scone recipe they have that I want to try here soon. This one is so good, especially with the powdered sugar icing I added  Ingredients: 1 1/2 cups white flour 1/2 cup whole wheat flour 2 tbsp brown sugar 1/2 tsp baking soda 2 teaspoons baking powder 4 tbsp butter, cold 2/3 cup unsweetened apple sauce 2 tbsp orange or lemon zest 1/3 cup buttermilk 1/2 cup blueberries, fresh or frozen Method: Stir together all dry ingredients. Cut in cold butter until the butter is very small chunks. Stir together the apple sauce, zest and butter milk. Pour over dry mixture and stir with a fork just until it all comes together. Do no over mix scones. Using your hands, gently work the berries into the dough. Place mounds of dough onto a parchment lined baking sheet. Bake at 375º for 12-15 minutes.

What's Up

What I have been up to this morning is waiting for this guy to show up so needless to say I haven't done much as far as sewing goes. Up on the wall is my RSC13 for this month, a green baby / child quilt. I started on it Saturday at our guild meeting which was a working meeting The pattern is a simple nine patch and snowballs. Have most of it done, just need to finish putting it together. The whole idea for me doing the RSC13 is to use up the scrap pieces I have in tubs out it the garage. This is what my greens consist of  For some reason, which I don't know, is how I came about having all this solid green fabric scraps. I probably have enough to make a dozen quilts like I'm making. The other fabric I'm using in this baby quilt is a dress that was started and not finished. It's laying on top of the tub. The other quilts I am working on is my daughters quilt. Have all the blocks made and just again need to stitch it

Starting Sweet Potato Slips

If you aren't starting your own Sweet Potato slips you might remember doing this as a child. That is taking a sweet potato   cutting it in half, and putting the cut end in water,  then watching it take roots and sprouts. Well that is what growing your own slips all about. I had wrote about the process step by step almost 2 years ago and this link will take you to it. I had just started mine but I not sure how healthy of slips I will get. My sweet potatoes last year were not a good crop. Between the heat, drought and then the cows getting into the veggie garden and eating the vines at a critical time, I ended up with a small crop and the potatoes were very small.  I started quite a few this time just in case it doesn't work out like I hope. I have also ordered some new slips. I wanted to add a new variety. So give it a try but I not sure about store bought potatoes working out in the garden but they do make a neat plant for the kids to grow.

WIP

I just wanted to take a minute and share a little of what I am working on today. I had to mail the little dudes a box of new clothes and I wanted to put this cloth book in with it so I quickly stitched it up this morning I added the "Grandma loves you" And then I am working on Laura's quilt, had it laid out on the floor to see what it is looking like. Have some more blocks to make so I went into the sewing room to work on them. Came back some minutes later to add a couple and guess what I found   Yes that's Shankopotamus laying there so nonchalance. I bet he thinks I don't see what he did.  Silly Cat. I need to get back to sewing I'm linking up with http://www.freshlypieced.com/ http://www.sew-much-ado.com/ Go check for yourself and see what others are up to

Let's Talk Goals

I can take care of two tasks at one time. I need to review my Get-R-Dones and  weekly goal. Lets get to the bad news first, I again did not complete my list if 4 from last month. It's not to say I didn't try. 1.  I did work on the 30's Row quilt and all I have left is the row I am going to change to house and then the border. So I am very close to done but NOT. 2. Did not go near the Sisters in Scriptures. I think I will put that one away and try again  later this year . Still can not seem to get motivated on this one. 3. Christmas String did get worked on but not to the point it is done. I have a few more sashings to do and then sew on the two additional rows I felt it needed. Again close to done but NOT, 4.  I did work on "Some Kind of Wonderful", I did complete that goal even though the top is not done. That wasn't my goal, just do some work on it.   Yea one done. (1 out of 4) April's 4 1.  Is to have Laura's Qui
