Time Flys

It's hard to believe it's been two weeks since I last wrote.  I have been very productive tho. I was able to complete my string quilt and love how it turned out.  Can't say that it made a dent in the strips. I also machine quilted the turquoise baby quilt. Nothing fancy just some straight lines and waves around the outer border. Now it's ready to be given away. Now I can say Yeah!!!!! The Farmer's Wife 1930 quilt is done. I did a different setting than the book and didn't use all the blocks I made. I'll have to find something else to use the remaining ones. Turned out OK Measures out to be 86 x 93.  So now on the design wall is my OMG for this month  it is one of the RSC I started in 2015 Have 10 blocks but I'll need six more to go.  Linking up with elm street quilts

80's in February

Hard to believe it is  February with the temperatures in the 80's. Will be again tomorrow. Worked outside some but not as much as I should of been doing.  Today I had to wait for servicemen to come and check out the new dishwasher. It hadn't worked like it should so I called them to check on it. I thought it might of been off balance but actually it has a faulty door and control panel. Now I have to wait for another to replace it. Thank goodness I didn't have surgery. Yesterday I did make a few more Retro Air-Ship Propeller blocks. Slowly I'm getting that one done. I don't remember how many I'll need but do know I have quite a few left to make. Check this out............... 14 eggs today, the girls are liking this warm weather. Today I started on the string quilt Made large and small pieces to cut out the 4 1/2" squares from. Now I do not use a foundation, just sew the strips together.  Now the strips are not s

Today

I have been home now for a little over a week and I can say I finally feel like things are back to normal. Funny how sometimes you need a space of time to get adjusted to your routine after being gone for so long. And one of my bad routines, maybe not bad but I could be utilizing my time better, is I will check my blog in the morning then check my blog list and I'll start reading and then before you know it I'm surfing the web and before you know it I have been on my iPad for over an hour. It's the time of the year that makes it a bad thing. Because if I need to be doing anything outside should be first thing in the morning when it's the coolest. And it's not saying much as far as being the coolest, kids right now it's 80° humidity is 85% and the dewpoint is like 75. It's like living in the tropics.  I did braved the outside long enough to let the chickens out the henhouse and check on anything that needed to be harvest today like some blueberries, cab

What's Up

I'm almost done with the Red String. Yesterday while watching Bonnie's Quilt Cam, I was able to finish putting the rows together. What better time to work on a scrap quilt than watching the Queen of scrap quilts. Just love the look of this pattern. It looks like it would be challenging to assemble but really its not. The pattern has a plain border but was thinking about using the leftover strips and cutting them down to 2" strips to finish out to be 1 1/2". Insert that strip between the background fabric for the border. Hard to decide cause I like the look of both ways. I added 2 rows to make it square. Right now before border it's  84" x 84" Can go with the suggested 6" border to make the quilt  96" x 96" or go with a slightly larger, say 7" or 71/2" to make the finish size 98" x 98" I'm leaning towards slightly larger border, thinking the small fi

Oh so close

You know that saying "close but no cigar." Well that is what I can say about my red string quilt. The strip sets I had made wasn't  enough,  even thou I did end with parts left.  But they were not the  6" strips which I am 12 inches short of completing one X block. Just need  2 sections like this to make the block.   That's one block short of finishing all of the blocks for the top.  Now  I don't have all the blocks up  in the picture showing my design, it's due to the limited space on the  wall.  It's 2 rows short. My plan for today is to assemble all the blocks after the additional strip set for the piece needed to finish the X block. I think I'll gonna go head and make a larger strip set to cut that down for the border. Before sewing the rows together, I need to position the X's a certain way. Looking at whats up now I can tell they are not. It needs to look like chain links

What's Up

Up on the design wall this fine Monday morning, is what I had been working on for the past few days and that was making the strip sets for the Red String Quilt. They're not cut to the size needed for the blocks yet but even though, I'm not sure if I have enough made to finish the top. I know I don't have enough to do the border.  Now the border in the book it's just a plain background fabric border but I thought about using a small string strip in between two background strips And I'm also making mine a little larger than the one in the book I'm going to do it in a square 96" x 96" That being said that will probably keep me busy all day. If I get bored or I do for some reason actually finished putting what I have prepped together, I need to work on October the Farmer's Wife blocks. And also the Lime Pickles will be ready to can this afternoon or evening so I'll be needing to do that later today. Now I wa

Oh what a beautiful morning

Mother nature decided to give us a taste of fall here in North East Oklahoma the past couple of days. I woke up this morning with the temperature at 60's and you could not ask for any more pleasant weather. So the first thing I did was to get dressed, after my coffee, and go outside to just drink up this beautiful blessing Before I took my walk I decided to check the traps by the chicken house none in that trap but  Lo and behold I have one trapped underneath the birdfeeder by the back porch. Jeez Louise this makes seven in the past four days. I thought they lived in like dens and they would have a certain amount of area that they would consider their feeding grounds. How many can you have that one area? And another thing they must breed like bunnies So after my walk I went out to the garden and did a little more weeding, pick some more veggies, and planted a few seeds for my fall garden. I also took a picture of the dish I mention yesterday t
